MALTA PROGRAMME OF EVENTS
CONFERENCE: THE CHALLENGES OF SKILLS SHORTAGES AND THE ROLE OF INDUSTRY IN VET
Date & Time: Monday 14th October 08.00 – 14.30
Venue: Hotel Pheonicia, Floriana, Malta
Audience: Bringing together the broadest range of post-secondary and tertiary education, training and vocational organisations, employers with students, their parents and others interested in VET.
The dynamic evolving nature of the economic changes, in particular the rapid changes being collectively referred to as Industry 4.0, continue to bring to the forefront the need for education and training provision to remain continuously in sync with the knowledge and skills necessary for productive contribution to the labour market. Skills shortages identified by the labour market in Malta are very much reflective of the situation across the European region. However, policy solutions identified in other countries might not fit the Maltese socio-economic and geographic context. To this effect, the Ministry for Education and Employment and the Maltese vocational education and training providers have been seeking to work closer with industry to find local joint-solutions to address skills shortages in Malta. The aim of the conference is to bring together local key stakeholders and key players to take stock of policy action and measures implemented so far, reflect on their effectiveness and discuss alternative initiatives which can be considered by the respective entity.

During the VET Skills Week, this initiative will open up the laboratories and workshops to students, staff, parents and the general public, as appropriate.
